Joshua asks Ellen if she could try to help Candace out. ![]() He accidentally ended up leaving Candace behind at the party, where a group of his friends gang raped her, causing Joshua to feel heavily sorry for his mistake. He tells Ellen that they were close friends from childhood through college, until one night when he took her to a party. Outside the court house, Ellen asks Joshua how he knows Candace. Mathis gives Madea a jail sentence of 5 years. Madea again goes to court with Judge Mathis presiding over her case. A SWAT team is dispatched to Madea's house and they arrest her. After another incident in the parking lot of a Kmart store (when Madea uses a forklift to flip off a red Pontiac Solstice that just parked next to a Toyota Camry), Madea makes a quick get away as the outraged woman calls her husband, a former police officer. Later, Madea takes an anger management counseling session, which is run by Dr. Joshua denies this, and Linda storms out after the two argue. When Linda finds Candace asleep on the couch in her robe, she gets angry at Joshua accusing him of having an affair with Candace. After Candace escapes from him, she calls Joshua, who brings her back to his place while Linda is asleep on his bed. However, one of Donna's boyfriends finds them and sexually assaults Candace, and declares himself her pimp. When Ellen leaves, Donna begs Candace to get off the streets. Later on the streets, Ellen meets Candace with her friend Donna (Vanessa Ferlito), another prostitute. Joshua and Candace talk briefly over lunch, and it is implied that the two had some past dealings with one another as college students. After the trial, Joshua, who has paid Candace's bail, meets with church activist Ellen (Viola Davis), who tries to help Candace, who seems somewhat bitter and angry about her circumstances, but determines her to be a survivor. But, Hardaway lands a case too personal to handle - defending a young prostitute and drug addict Candace Washington (Keshia Knight Pulliam), whom he is apparently already acquainted with and asks his fiancée and fellow ADA Linda Davis (Ion Overman) to fill in on his behalf. Meanwhile, assistant district attorney Joshua Hardaway (Derek Luke) is on the fast track to career success. After a high-speed freeway chase (as shown at the end of Perry's previous film Meet the Browns) puts Madea (Tyler Perry) in front of Judge Mablean (Mablean Ephriam), her trial is short-lived due to the police officers not mirandizing Madea causing the judge to give Madea an anger management course.
